Kagoshima Prefecture, located on the southwestern tip of Kyushu Island, is Japan's second-largest tea-producing region. Its unique environment contributes significantly to the tea's profile:
Volcanic Soil: The region is home to the active Sakurajima volcano. The volcanic soil is rich in minerals, which is said to contribute to the umami depth and a slight mineral undertone in the tea.
Climate: The subtropical climate with warm temperatures and high rainfall allows the tea plants to awaken earlier from winter dormancy, often yielding the prized first flush (Ichibancha) earlier than other regions.
Aroma & Flavor: Kagoshima matcha is typically known for a vibrant, deep green color, a smooth, sweet, and rich umami profile, often with floral or vegetal notes, and generally low bitterness.
